Sea Rescue – The Voices Of Zarzis Fishermen

The Tunisian fishermen of Zarzis often cross migrant boats from Libya. In September 2013 one of them rescue a stranded boat with 112 people on board. “There were six women and two children. A woman gave birth sitting on the edge of the raft,” says this fisherman. Of the 112 migrants, about a dozen have lost their lives at sea, the others were taken in Zarzis and then transferred to Medenine, where they live with a document from asylum seekers.

Across the sea it aimed at documenting migrations journeys along main routes of the Mediterranean Sea. Grounding on the previous Through Desert and Sea, the project wants to outline the comprehensive dimension of migration from Southern to Northern shores with the long term goal of enhancing intercultural dialogue, empowering migrants and fostering alternative narratives and perceptions about migration in the Mediterranean countries.
