Push Back

Shtit is small village of one hundred citizens close to the Turkish-Bulgarian border: a few houses, a small hotel-restaurant and a Bulgarian border police station. This place is the starting point for patrols in search of migrants at the border. Border policemen shall allow migrants to seek asylum, though, what most of them tell, is that policeman are used to the “push back” approach, illegal expulsions of asylum seekers across the border with Turkey.

Across the sea it aimed at documenting migrations journeys along main routes of the Mediterranean Sea. Grounding on the previous Through Desert and Sea, the project wants to outline the comprehensive dimension of migration from Southern to Northern shores with the long term goal of enhancing intercultural dialogue, empowering migrants and fostering alternative narratives and perceptions about migration in the Mediterranean countries.
